So like many of you out there in 40K land I’m kind of sitting here waiting for 6th to arrive so I can see how my current armies shake up in terms of adjustments, units, and what I may need to buy to update them.
As more and more rumors get confirmed, and as some of us have seen the rules, the first army I’m wondering about is Grey Knights of course since they are arguably currently the best army in the game here at the end of 6th.
It doesn’t take much to play them in the current henchman/chimera/autocannon dread spam build- and I mean no disrespect to your hobby enjoyment if that is the type of army you play…
So why do Grey Knights have the potential to be even more over-the- top then right now?
Could you even imagine such a thing?
That said, I could possibly see the current WAAC GK lists being nullified…
I’m going to go off “rumors” here so feel free to correct me or add your own thoughts:
Cover saves are going down to a 5+ which means if you aren’t wearing power armor or iron underwear you are dead. Xenos get screwed even more and all marines get a huge boost.
Shooting get a boost with some of the special rules and all Grey Knights come with a storm bolter as standard which can be further augmented with psybolts. Tell me another army with a “basic” gun that can outshoot Grey Knights.
AV 14 get a HUGE boost, and Land Raiders are going to be back in full force- who has a better land raider then the Grey Knights? Psybolts, and fortitude are a nasty combo- you can’t kill me and I get to keep shooting every turn.
Psychic powers/devastation is now a major component of the game. Well, GK can take two librarians as an HQ choice and start throwing around the warp magics. Question- are justicars a “psyker” also? GK’s also have hoods to shut down opposing psychic power races- what are non-psykers like Necrons, Tau, and Dark Eldar supposed to do? An entire phase of the game your army can’t participate in?
Sound fun?
Close combat is even deadlier- bring on the Grey Knights with their +2 I halberds and force/power weapons. Sure power weapons are AP 3 and termies are immune, but we’ll just deal with termies as we always have as the 40K community goes on an unstoppable love fest with them-hit them with storm bolter spam and watch the “1” roll up. Against anything but termies and the odd 2+ save model everything else just continues to drop.
Throw any rumor you have at the Grey Knights and you tell me how it will hurt them in any way, how any rumor out there can’t enhance the army?
Can you say the same about Necrons who don’t have any psychic powers at all? Sire they have “crypteks” with some cool items which could be their version of “magic” and you won’t be able to dispel it, but marines already kind of have that- it’s called “wargear”.
But all isn’t doom or gloom yet, far from it! This has to be the most excitement in terms of shakeup in my entire time playing the game- which can only be a good thing!
Our salvation lies with the Xenos armies, as they're the only ones that can seriously optimise to kill marines. We just need new a Eldar update to see the return of starcannon spam and the return of true strategy to the game.
ReplyDeletecorect me if i am wrong (1 have been away for 4 weeks) but isent the storm bolter assult 2 not rapid fire and the rapid fire rules are ment to be getting a major boost not assult wepons so it will still only have 2 shots comperd to what ever rapid fire gets.
ReplyDeleteRumour states they always get the full range shot even when moving, but no assault after shooting.
DeleteAlso what language is your second reply? Having issues translating into English.
are tau ment to be immune to the warp so they are also probebly going to immune to sevral phychic powers. also necron are robots so same deal. gun that can out shoot GK tau have plenty evan there basic gun out rangers the storm bolter. CC when cou play tau that is the firs thing you learn stay away from CC units or use your expensive Kroot as speed bumps. AV 14 EMP grenades put a unit of 12 in the middle of the bord and use them to pin some units while creat a massive spearhead attack some where else if you position righ these landraders drive right past not gining yo ua second thourght then you attack with a number crunching 2 pens and 4 glanses. so tau are set if GW keeps the bist bits of the codex
ReplyDeleteAt least you haven't seen a few snippets of rules, taken out of context and over-reacted on assumptions alone. Oh wait...
ReplyDeleteHow is he over-reacting, he is just saying what anyone with half a brain or more is thinking....
DeleteTalking about over-reactions I would think you had written the 6th edition with the butthurt you are displaying.
At the moment everything points towards boosts for marines, with GK leading the power curve. Sure we don't have the full details but the entire game is based around marines, and it is extremely evident to any non marine player that great lengths are taken to ensure that no non marine codex or rules will effect this fact.
Everyone is hoping the new edition is good, and all the Xenos players are really hoping for some balance or at least something to break the stranglehold that Marines have over the game currently.
Only today I thought to myself, wow despite 5th being pretty rubbish for Xenos that 4+ cover save is huge for everyone paying a huge price for crappy 4+,5+,6+, - saves....
Yay that plasma gets better if the rumours are true, but wait... Xenos don't get real plasma....
GWS doesn't have a track record of balance, or even good game design, they sell toys and its all about pushing releases, not building a good universe that everyone can enjoy equally (unless they collect marines and everything else they actually like). So we are all hoping its good, but not expecting much.
He's overreacting because he's listening to crap rumors and deciding the game is doooooomed. It happens every time a new edition or new Codex comes out... but I didn't think Fritz would have this problem.
Delete"But all isn’t doom or gloom yet, far from it! This has to be the most excitement in terms of shakeup in my entire time playing the game- which can only be a good thing!", how does this translate to "he's listening to crap rumors and deciding the game is doooooooooooooooomed.?
DeleteFrom what I have read if you believe the rumors then GK are getting hit by the nerf bat pretty hard... rapid fire weapons are as good as stormbolters for shooting... BA DoA will thrash them in assault... etc.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about the I 10 jump pack and assault on deepstrike which would make the game very interesting.
DeleteAll in all, I'm really welcoming the change to 6th- let's shake it up!
That said, while i hope xenos get a boost to possibly be able to compete against marines, I'm no fool with how GW operates.
I also think the nerd rage from going from 4th to 5th was much greater in the internet community then from 5th to 6th- maybe we are all just sick of 5th?
Here's a rumour that hurts Grey Knights, Fritz. Vehicles are WS1 if they move.
ReplyDeleteWeapon Skill 1. EVERYTHING hits them on a 3+ in CC. Monstrous Creatures. Harlequin Fusion Pistols. BA Inferno Pistols. Blast Pistols. Powerfists, thunderhammers, chainfists...
Think about Tyranids having reliable anti-tank on their flyrants and Trygons. Think about the Bloodthurster or winged Daemon Princes with how many attacks? More than enough.
Another rumour that hurts Grey Knights: Power Weapons being AP3. Ok, that's been called into question but it may be that they no longer nearly insta-gib terminators.
Another one: Assault comes before shooting. So no, you don't get to shoot your storm bolters before you charge, GK, thanks. Not that those SBs become useless but it's less output.
I'm really excited for 6th. I think I only got in a dozen games in 5th. My area is dominated by WAAC players and rules lawyers who are pretty condescending/intimidating - or I can play pick up games at GW with mouthy 10yr olds. I was sidelined by the birth of my daughter and decided to just stick with the hobby and fluff side of 5th too so it's not all down to the demographic in my area. I'm hoping to get in more table time with 6th. I love my DA but I also have a Necorn army and a DE army that I'd like to master as well (God, DE can be so fragile and I am not a subtle player).
ReplyDeleteI suppose we can hope and prey for some powerful Errata and FAQ hits to the GK army to keep them from hitting overdrive in 6th.
ReplyDeleteThat said, woo 6th!
Obviously a tabletop noob review. Stop crying about Grey Knights and realize they are just Internet hype. Have you been paying attention to the GTs? Necron's are shitting on everyone.
ReplyDeleteYour concepts of why GK's overpowered :
AV14 - With Fortitude vs Blessed Hulls?
-Necron warrior spam glance with hull breach
- Same Issue with DE Wytches
Stormbolters - 20pts for psybolt or 10 points for a Tau fire warrior with a 30' 2 shot str5 gun. Cry elsewhere. Even bolters are 2shots at 24'.
You're only real complaint is Psyker powers, of which are offensive ones are meh. As you poorly pointed out earlier, have a good amount of counters.
-Hoods,Gloom Prism (That's necron buddy),runes of witness/warding,runic stave, shadow of the warp, blessing of the blood god. Dark eldar as you stated have lady malys which basically has a null rod.
Do you even actually play 40k?
He is right about the fact there is hardly any balance in 40k anymore and 6th edition only buffed the armies that were already the strongest before 6th
ReplyDeleteDraigo Paladin "spam" did not exactly get weaker too even if its not the absolute tournament optimum they can put out!
But seriously, i think Necron got an even better part of the cake than GK did even with termie buff and no osychic powers. Their transport flyer is simply plain facepalm op! Just like pretty much the rest if their stuff!
SW and DE did not exactly get stronger or weaker in my opinion, the rest is just not worthy of tournaments anymore. IG and orks can potentially put up decent armies too now
